Gaddafy Plate

This was presented to SSAGO at Witan (an annual international camp of clubs similar to SSAGO) in 1984 by the Libyan Scouts in attendance. It came from the 1982 Arabic Jamboree. It is used as a challenge plate amongst clubs (although there has only been one official staging of the challenge in the last few years) with challenge rules including: teams must be mixed, teams can only wear swimming costumes with paper bags on their heads and the referee must live for at least 24 hours after the competition; although on agreement with both teams the rules can be amended.

The Rules

  1. The challenge shall be any event nominated by the challengers, for which winners can be judged.
  2. Teams shall consist of 4 members of mixed sexes
  3. The majority of each team shall be from the participating club
  4. If a challenge made and the holding team are unable to meet this challenge, the plate is then forfeited to the challengers
  5. The event shall be judged by a referee independent of either club
  6. Team members are only allowed to wear swimming costumes with paper bags over their heads
  7. Challenges shall be formally and publicly made at least 12 hours prior to the event, stating the nature of the event
  8. The referee must :-
    1. decide the competition is fair
    2. decide the winning team
    3. their decision is final, especially when wrong
  9. The referee must live for at least 24 hours after the event
  10. The challenging team must supply all the equipment for the challenge
  11. The plate cannot be held to ransom!
  12. The plate remains the property of SSAGO, shall not be defaced and must be returned on demand to SSAGO officials (Breakages will be charged for!)
  13. The custody of the plate shall be to a nominated member of the successful club deposit his/her home address with the SSAGO chairperson
  14. Any of the above rules can be amended for a challenge subject to both clubs agreeing
