Hi, I'm not actually going to be around this year, as I'm studying abroad, but I ran the SSAGO stall at Northumbria's societies fair yesterday and have about 20 names + contact details for people who are interested, plus the names of 2 people at Newcastle. This means we definitely have enough people to be an offical society here at Northumbria (which also means we can get funding ) If there's anybody else out there who I didn't see yesterday, especially someone interested in being part of the committee, can you please get in touch with the societies office on 0191 227 3737 The person you need to speak to is either Claire Richardson or Sarah Caine. Also, is there someone at Newcastle who could try to get people together over there, as I'm thinking a joint society is definitely the way to go here, both for numbers and funding.Anybody who gave me their name yesterday: the list has gone to the societies office, someone from there (not me, as I'm leaving on Sunday and won't be back til Christmas) will contact you about a meeting to sort out exactly how the society will work. The society's main function is going to be as a local link organisation, as a lot of people yesterday were wanting to get involved with local units but didn't have any contacts in Nwecastle. There's also a few girl scouts from overseas who want to get involved with something while they're in Enlgand
I really hope we can get a unit up and running this time (last year's attempt couldn't get enough people and just quietly died a death)
Any queries, please get in touch, Good luck, Jenny [size=small]

TUGS Mascot Bubbles at Northumbria and Newcastle Uni Tyneside University Guides Scouts Mascot Hello,
I'm currently in the joint society TUGS at Newcastle and Northumbria uni, funny to note there was a TUGS back in 2005 as when I first joined it was called SSAGO but we changed the name to TUGS which in reflection seems to be what it was called in the first place. Anyway we have a Mascot bubbles the penguin that is passed on every year to the next exec, and it is often question during our first meeting, how old is bubbles and when did he first join the society and where he came from. To which the exec answer has always been, we don't know. Does anyone know here the history of our legendary mascot.
Paul

almost certainly something from the newer generation (post 2005ish) because the previous Newcastle SSAGO (also known as Tynelink) had a mascot called Alan which was a fluffy blue soft toy in the shape of a star bought from Ikea.

Hi Paul,
I guess I bought Bubbles in 2005 after we discovered that the Blue newcastle brown bottle star mascot had been cut up by a club after a steal, and all that was returned to the club were pictures and pieces. I certain bought a penguin but I can't remember if we had named him or not by that point.
